Online Makeup Resource for Pageant Contestants

Professional Makeup Guidance, Beauty Tips, High-Pigment Makeup How to Apply Camera-Ready Makeup to Match Dress Colors

Are you an excited beauty pageant contestant?  Congratulations and best wishes to you for a successful pageant!  Now, about showcasing your beautiful face….

Do you know how to apply your own makeup so it looks ‘professionally done’?
Do you know which lip, eye and cheek colors will flatter you and your dress color?
Do you know which products and colors will show up on stage and on camera, without looking overdone?
Do you know where to find an online resource for makeup tips and guidance to help you create your very own ‘show-stopping’ makeup look?

One of the most important, on-going skills a pageant contestant can possess is understanding how to apply and adapt her makeup, not only during each segment of pageant competition, but for any occasion.  Looking ‘camera-ready’ for those important personal appearances, impromptu photos or TV interviews is necessary for a successful pageant contestant and winner.   (continued below)

*****************************************************************************************************************

“Many young women want the self-confidence that learning how to apply their makeup will give them – whether they wish to create a fresh, natural look or all-out red carpet glamour for a big night on stage.  Mastering their makeup abilities can be especially important to contestants preparing for beauty pageants, giving them extra confidence when presenting themselves to the judges,” says Jennifer Kalman, Commercial Makeup Artist.

Some beauty pageants do not have access to a professional makeup artist, therefore each contestant is responsible for applying her makeup suitable for her age and outfit.  But how to achieve professional results without professional guidance?   One online makeup resource is especially useful for pageant contestants, showing how to:

- Select lip, eye and cheek colors to coordinate with the colors they are wearing…avoid makeup colors that clash with the dress.
- Find highly-pigmented makeup color products that are ‘camera ready’ for stage, photos and videos…avoid ‘washed-out’ photos!
- Locate and print online how-to-apply makeup tips, techniques and directions to use as a reference guide during makeup application
- Skillfully blend eye shadows to enlarge, contour and brighten the eyes
- Apply false eyelashes
- Define and add fullness to the lips
- Find help from a professional makeup artist if they have a specific makeup question.

The solution is an online makeup resource for pageant contestants interested in refining their makeup skills!  This online resource shows specially-selected makeup tones to match their dress, identifying high-pigment lip, eye and cheek color products, all shown in a fresh Natural Look or a glamorous Dramatic Look.  The packages are complete with illustrations showing where to apply the high-pigment makeup colors and how to blend them.  On the site, pageant contestants can also join the “Make Me Dazzle” club to gain special website access to advanced makeup tips, techniques and instruction to help them showcase their beauty!  This online resource is similar to having your own personalized makeup lesson with a professional makeup artist!

Make sure YOU steal the spotlight every time!

Jennifer Kalman - photoCommercial Makeup Artist, Jennifer Kalman, has 18+ years of experience applying makeup for thousands of weddings, proms, quinceaneras, pageants and special events, as well as for print media, TV and video.  That expertise became the idea behind QDazzle™.  Jennifer wanted to be able to teach young women how to do their own makeup (knowledge they can use for a lifetime), rather than just applying their makeup once for their special day….as well as provide an online resource for her makeup artist designed, highly-pigmented  and camera-ready color cosmetics.  To read more about Jennifer and the QDazzle(TM) concept, click here.

2009 MISS AMERICA “EVELYN AY SEMPIER

QUALITY OF LIFE AWARD” WINNERS ANNOUNCED

From left: Miss America Organization President and CEO, Art McMaster; Miss Alabama Amanda Tapley; Stacy Sempier, Miss America 1954 Evelyn Ay Sempier’s daughter; Miss Kentucky Emily Cox; Miss America 1955 Lee Meriwether;

and Miss Michigan Ashlee Baracy

Las Vegas, NV – January 22 — This year’s Evelyn Ay Sempier Quality of Life Award winner was announced today and the winner is Miss Kentucky Emily Cox . Emily was recognized for her work on her platform, “Uniquely Me – Promoting Self Esteem in Adolescent Girls” and she will receive a $6,000 scholarship. The announcement was made at Planet Hollywood  during Thursday’s Miss America press conference, and marks the last day of preliminary competition for the 2009 Miss America Pageant.

Through Emily’s own struggle with issues of low self esteem, she came to the realization that regardless of socio-economic status, race, or academic ability, kids are constantly pressured to meet expectations they can’t even define. With this in mind, Emily began work on her service project nearly two years ago. Her goal has been to promote a sense of self worth amongst young girls and boys so that they might realize the heights of life they aspire to. She has involved others by creating and implementing Self Esteem Workshops for kids in the classroom setting, Girl Scout troops and church groups. Through these workshops Emily has been able to reach approximately 27,829 young people in Kentucky and spread her message.

The first-runner up is Miss Michigan Ashlee Baracy whose personal platform issue is “Breast Cancer Awareness and Education”.  Ashlee is an advocate for breast cancer awareness and has been a caregiver for her mother who is a breast cancer survivor of five years.  It has become her mission to create an online support network that went live on the Internet in 2007; she is a founder of BCDaughters.com which is an international website that serves as an outlet to support Breast Cancer victims. She has worked on fundraising efforts for the American Cancer Society and has also become a legislative ambassador and has lobbied in DC for cancer research.

The second runner-up is Miss Alabama Amanda Tapley, whose personal platform is “Music For a Cure.” Amanda worked with her brother to create a CD with some of her favorite piano pieces and all proceeds were donated to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.  She created a CD  with a music software program  and raised over $4,000 for their pediatric research.  Amanda also performed a benefit with family members that raised another $13,000 for research.  She has been able to support our national partner, Children’s Miracle Network, and use that platform as an umbrella to her personal mission.  Amanda continued to show her passion for helping children as she performed a unique event for CMN that raised over $8,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Alabama.  To date, Amanda has raised over $27,000 for both children’s hospitals and continues to use her music for a cure.

This year, the newly renamed “Evelyn Ay Sempier Quality of Life Awards” were funded through the generosity of our Miss Americas. In honor of Miss America 1954 Evelyn Ay Sempier, the Miss America sisters funded three Quality of Life awards with special attention paid to depth of service, creativity of the project and the significant effects upon the lives of others.

Quality of Life Awards were introduced in 1988 to recognize contestants who excel in their commitment to community service. The awards are available to each of the 52 contestants competing for the title of Miss America. In order to be considered for the Quality of Life Award, contestants must have submitted an application describing their involvement with Children’s Miracle Network, the national platform of the Miss America Organization, and their own personal platform issue.

An honorable mention goes to the remaining six finalists: Miss Hawaii Nicole Fox , whose platform is “The Adopt A College Program;” Miss Indiana Katie Stam, whose platform is “Super Saturday of Service;” Miss North Carolina Amanda Watson, whose platform is “Making ALS History, One Person At A Time;” Miss Rhode Island Francesa Simone, whose platform is “F.A.C.T – Families of Alzheimers Carrying the Torch;” and Miss Virginia Tara Wheeler, whose platform is Empowering America’s Youth.”

Be sure to watch as a new Miss America is crowned at the 2009 Miss America Pageant airing live on TLC, Saturday, January 24, at 8 p.m. EST and 7 p.m. Central. The 2009 Miss America Pageant will be tape delayed to air at 8 p.m. PST and 9 p.m. Mountain.

Former Miss USA Turned Journalist Launches Official Website

Former Miss USA Turned Journalist Launches Official Website

Los Angeles, CA. (PRWEB) January 19, 2009- Former Miss USA, and Emmy Award winning journalist Lu Parker has been described as “One of the most respected broadcast journalist in Los Angeles” by one of Southern California’s leading news websites. Now, this multi-faceted talent launches her new official website at www.luparker.com. The site offers visitors the opportunity to interact with Parker via her blog.

It also gives fans and colleagues an up-close look at her life, work, and many exciting adventures. As a journalist and television host for over a decade, Parker has been recognized for her outstanding work. She has reported from the front lines of fires, floods, and earthquakes. Television viewers in Southern California can tune in to see Lu currently on KTLA, Channel 5. She has interviewed countless celebrities and politicians including George W. Bush, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kanye West, Matt Damon, and Eva Longoria-Parker. Visitors to Parker’s new site can watch her report from the Democratic Headquarters in Los Angeles as Barack Obama is elected.

Parker knows about winning! In 1994, in the course of only 3 months, she captured both the Miss South Carolina USA, and Miss USA titles. She went on to place 4th in the Miss Universe Pageant. As you might expect, Lu worked hard to reach her pageant goals, but while competing, she noticed there was little information about how to succeed in the competitive world of pageants. Parker realized how others could benefit from a pageant guidebook that explains in detail the secrets to winning a pageant. Now in its 2nd publication, “Catching the Crown: The Source for Pageant Competition” continues to be a comprehensive guide for today’s highly competitive pageant environment.

“If you want to win a pageant, you must read “Catching the Crown.” Lu shows you easy, and proven ways to get the judges to pick you as the winner,” says Pageantry Magazine CEO, Carl Dunn. Former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres was at the pageant the night Lu was crowned. Torres says, “Her poise, personality, elegance, and beauty were so impressive, there was no doubt in my mind she would win.” Fans and pageant enthusiasts can find more about Parker’s book on the new website.

In 2009, television and film fans can catch Lu on the FOX network hit show “Bones,” and in the soon to be released film “Winged Creatures,” starring Dakota Fanning. Parker has appeared on several other popular shows, including “Monk,” “Commander in Chief,” and “Shark.” Lu recently appeared in the film “An American Carol,” a comedy directed by David Zucker.

For Lu, positive feedback and success are the result of years of hard work. She says, “I have always believed staying focused, having a strong work ethic, and setting big goals for yourself helps one move forward. As a former pageant winner, teacher, actress, and journalist, I’ve spent countless hours perfecting my craft.” Parker is only getting started. This year, she is set to make her mark in even bigger and better ways!

In her free time Lu is an advocate for homeless animals, and serves on the Board of Trustees at Saint Francis Hospital in Los Angeles. She participates in dozens of charity events annually raising money for children, animals and the needy.
